Bio
A native of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Renaud Gélinas is an independent filmmaker now based in Montreal. During his film studies at the Université de Montréal, he directed his first two short films, Le Collectionneur (2022) and Antoine préfère la mer (2023). After graduating in 2023, he shot his latest short film, Océan seul, vents égarés (2025), a story about a mother fleeing her family.
In his films, he explores themes of solitude, memory, and the complexity of human relationships. He enjoys depicting brief encounters between two lonely souls and the connection that emerges between them, notably through extended dialogue scenes and contemplative shots.
Fascinated by the boundary between realism and mysticism, Renaud is currently preparing a new short film where similar themes will be explored through the lens of horror and mystery. He’s also working on a short documentary filmed in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico.
